The IRSST wishes to announce the official publication of its policy on the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in scientific activities. This new policy is designed to provide clear guidance for the responsible use of GenAI tools in the context of scientific work carried out or funded by the Institute.
GenAI is increasingly important in research, particularly in writing, data analysis and the production of scientific content. Aware of the benefits but also of the risks associated with these tools, the IRSST considered it essential to adopt a policy offering guidance for their use in order to guarantee scientific integrity, protect confidentiality and sensitive data, safeguard intellectual property, ensure ethical and regulatory compliance, and promote the strategic, fair and transparent use of GenAI.
Guidance for responsible use
The Policy applies to everyone involved in the IRSST’s scientific activities or benefiting from its funding, including researchers, staff members, students and research partners.
“Recognizing the fast pace of developments in artificial intelligence, this policy will be revised periodically in order to remain pertinent, effective and aligned with best practices.” Sophie De Serres, Assistant to the Chief Scientific Officer
– Research Division
Rigorous and ethical research
By publishing this policy, the IRSST reaffirms its commitment to innovative and rigorous research that meets the highest standards of integrity. The aim of providing guidance for the use of GenAI is to support the scientific community in adopting responsible practices that ensure both the quality of the knowledge produced and public confidence.
