The IRSST wishes to announce the official publication of its Politique sur l’utilisation de l’intelligence artificielle générative (IAG) dans les activités scientifiques (in French only). This new policy is designed to provide a framework for the transparent and responsible use of generative AI tools in the context of scientific work conducted or funded by the Institute.
Generative AI is playing an increasingly important role in research, particularly for writing, data analysis and the production of scientific content. Aware of the advantages but also the risks associated with GenAI tools, the IRSST deemed it essential to adopt a policy that would provide a framework for the use of these tools in order to guarantee scientific integrity, protect confidentiality and sensitive data, safeguard intellectual property, ensure ethical and regulatory compliance, and promote the strategic, equitable and transparent use of generative AI.
A framework for responsible use
The policy applies to everyone involved in the IRSST’s scientific activities or benefitting from Institute funding, including researchers, staff members, students and research partners.
“Recognizing the fast pace of developments in artificial intelligence, this policy will be revised periodically to ensure that it remains pertinent, efficient and aligned with best practices.” Sophie De Serres, Assistant to the Chief Scientific Officer – Research Division.
Rigorous and ethical research
By publishing this policy, the IRSST confirms its commitment to innovative, rigorous research that is compliant with the highest standards of integrity. The framework for the use of generative AI is intended to support the scientific community in adopting responsible practices, thus guaranteeing both the quality of the knowledge produced and public confidence.
