Handling and women: from a biomechanical and ergonomic perspective

Abstract

Handlers run a very high risk of back injuries. To find solutions to this chronic problem, the IRSST subsidizes a research program on handling. An initial project resulting from this program compared the work methods of male expert and novice handlers and identified handling principles that will be used as a guide in the development of a training program.

This project will focus on studying the strategies of female handlers. The objective is to understand what differentiates the methods of women handlers from those of men. The results of this research will be used to better adapt the training programs to gender.
