REPAR-IRSST Program: Identification of the biomechanical criteria that are determinants of gonarthrosis in workers: An exploratory study

Abstract

The relationship between the development of gonarthrosis (type of arthrosis affecting the knee) and jobs that expose the knee to mechanical overload has been established. However, most studies are based on qualitative observations and do not provide quantitative information about the functional state of the knee of the worker at risk. This study investigates the possibility of using a 3D biomechanical evaluation of the knee in a clinical context, in order to identify biomechanical criteria that are determining factors in the evolution of gonarthrosis. It will consequently be possible to recognize quantitatively and non-invasively those workers presenting a risk of developing this pathology, and eventually, to propose effective preventive measures.

This project falls within the context of the REPAR-IRSST joint research grant program in occupational rehabilitation and re-employment.
