Prevalence and impact of psychosocial factors over a 12-month period in patients referred for an occupational asthma assessment

Abstract

The correlation between psychological stress, some psychiatric disorders, and asthma in people suffering from the occupational form of this disease is not well known. The researchers will evaluate the prevalence of psychiatric problems in affected subjects and their impact on some aspects. They will attempt to determine to what extent psychological and psychosocial factors could affect the condition, work variables, and asthmatic symptoms of these patients as well as their use of health services, their pulmonary function, and their quality of life. This study will improve the understanding of the prevalence of psychiatric disorders that can simulate asthma, as well as the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of affected workers. Its results will promote their return to work or their reintegration into a new occupational environment.
