Work-related fatalities: comparable indicators for British Columbia, Ontario and Québec for the years 2000 – 2002

Abstract

No study currently exists that compares the risks of death on the job in Québec to the situation in other Canadian provinces or territories. As the request of the CSST, the researchers will produce provincial indicators as comparable as possible for Québec, British Columbia and Ontario, including characteristics of the dead workers and the injuries compensated. The indicators resulting from this research will allow the comparison of the risks of death in seven activity sectors. They will be useful for determining the effectiveness of prevention measures and for improving the CSST’s programs. The methodological process used can also serve as a guide for other studies aiming to produce comparable indices between Canadian provinces or territories.
