Compilation of Articles on Ergonomic Interventions for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders

Abstract

Many ergonomic interventions have been carried out over the last 20 years to prevent musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) in the workplace. Until now, it was difficult to summarize the knowledge to be used for improving ergonomic practices. This publication summarizes and documents the aspects that contribute to the improvement of MSD prevention practices. The authors produced a database of the documentation published in English and in French. Five main categories of information were collected: the steps in the intervention process used, the general context, the changes implemented, the processes for accompanying the changes, and the authors’ comments about the dynamics of the intervention process in the company. Analysis of this data provides a picture of the major categories of intervention processes used in prevention, and a critical evaluation of their use. New avenues of research are proposed in order to better equip the professionals dealing with MSD problems in their activity sector.
