Montreal, November 19, 2018 – The IRSST and the Palais des congrès de Montréal recently launched a call for applications for the 2019 edition of the IRSST/Ambassadors’ Club Joint Award.

Valued at $10,000, the award will be given to an applicant who has demonstrated his or her intention to promote Montreal as an ideal location for the holding of a scientific event whose main focus is occupational health and safety (OHS). The award is designed to support the recipient in his or her efforts to attract a high-profile OHS conference to the city. The IRSST also undertakes to cover the costs of two trips and other eligible expenses incurred for the purpose of formalizing the arrangements for such an event in Montreal.

“Major scientific conferences provide opportunities for disseminating knowledge and for creating and strengthening links and partnerships among researchers,” explained IRSST president and CEO, Marie Larue. “The Institute intends to continue its involvement in organizing major national and international conferences by hosting and supporting such events.”

“It’s a genuine pleasure to be able to join forces with the IRSST to pay tribute to the dedication and commitment of researchers who help bring occupational health and safety conferences here to Montreal, the North American city that attracts the largest number of international events, many of them in the health field,” added Robert Mercure, president and CEO of the Palais des congrès de Montréal.

Applicants are invited to submit their documents by January 31, 2019, specifying the actions they have taken to date as a member of a scientific committee or an organizing committee of such an event. They must also explain the reasons why they are motivated to attract such an event to Montreal within the next ten years, as well as the anticipated spinoffs. Applications will be evaluated by a panel composed of two scientific representatives of the IRSST from different disciplines, and one representative of the Ambassadors’ Club of the Palais des congrès de Montréal.
