The IRSST becomes a World Health Organization collaborating centre

The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST), Marie Larue, is pleased to announce that the World Health Organization (WHO) has designated the IRSST's Scientific Direction as one of its collaborating centres. The main role of the collaborating centres (CC) is to provide strategic support to WHO in fulfilling its mandated activities and to help it ensure the scientific validity of global health work.

Guardrails on flat roofs: Better Fall Protection

All work at heights involves severe risk of falling. On a flat roof, the best way to prevent such accidents is by installing a guardrail. Until now, however, guardrail anchoring systems used in Québec had never been subjected to testing for compliance with the Safety Code for the construction industry.

New OHS Research Chair on Gender, Work, and Health

A first OHS research chair on gender, work, and health was recently awarded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST). The new chairholder is Julie Côté from McGill University’s Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Her research program is entitled “better understanding for better prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders: a coordinated gender- and sex-based approach.”
