Scientific Advisory Board: Appointment of Edwin Bourget

  •   April 19, 2013

At its regular meeting on April 18 and on recommendation by the president and CEO of the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST), the Board of Directors appointed a new representative of the scientific and technical communities to sit on the Institute’s Scientific Advisory Board. The new appointee is Edwin Bourget, recipient of numerous honours and distinctions, including the Québec government’s Prix Armand-Frappier 2012, which recognizes outstanding contributions to scientific research.

With a PhD in marine biology from the University of Wales in the United Kingdom, Mr. Bourget has had a brilliant university career as an emeritus professor, researcher, and administrator. He held the post of vice-rector of research and innovation at Université Laval, a position he had already held at Université de Sherbrooke. He has trained an impressive number of graduate students, including around ten post-doctoral fellows, over the course of his career, and has more than 100 scientific publications to his credit. He has also sat on a number of boards of directors.

On behalf of the members of the IRSST’s Scientific Advisory Board and personnel, president and CEO Marie Larue welcomed Mr. Bourget’s appointment, saying that “his vast experience in the university and scientific communities can only be of benefit to occupational health and safety research in Québec.”
