Meet IDIVOSH 2023 Keynote Speakers

Michael Flynn, Coordinator, Occupational Health Equity Program, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Toby Desnomie, President, CEO, ICOHPS, and Carles Muntaner, professor of Nursing, Public Health and Psychiatry at the University of Toronto are IDIVOSH 2023 keynote speakers.

The IRSST is hosting the international forum Immigration, Workforce Diversity, Precariousness and Situations of Vulnerability in OHS (IDIVOSH 2023). This event will be held in Montreal, from June 12 to 14, 2023.

IDIVOSH 2023 brings together researchers whose research issues relate to immigration and OHS, workforce diversity, precariousness and situations of vulnerability in occupational health and safety.

Michael Flynn, Coordinator, Occupational Health Equity Program, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

Michael Flynn is an applied anthropologist with 30 years of experience working on issues related to social inequality both domestically and abroad. He currently serves as a Lead Research Social Scientist with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Heath where he coordinates the Occupational Health Equity program. He is is the NIOSH representative to the CDC Health Equity Leadership Network and a member of the Ventanillas de Salud National Advisory Board.

Mr. Michael Flynn presentation is entitled “Immigration, Work, and Health: Towards a more Holistic Approach to Overlapping Structural Vulnerabilities and the Future of Work ”.

Toby Desnomie, President, CEO, ICOHPS

Toby Desnomie is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Indigenous Centre for Occupational Health & Public Safety, formally known as the Saskatchewan First Nations Safety Association (SFNSA). SFNSA started as a regional safety association, working with Treaty Nations under the banner of Occupational Health & Public Safety development.

Eager to take on the overwhelming task of generating public awareness, as well as developing strategic plans to advance safety systems in Indigenous Nations, Mr. Desnomie partnered with some of the leaders in safety, such as the Saskatchewan Safety Council, Services Hospitability Safety Association, University of Regina OHS Department of Business where he guests lectures on safety.

In his keynote address, Mr. Toby Sesnomie will discuss “First Nations Safety Culture”.

M. Carles Muntaner, professor of Nursing, Public Health and Psychiatry at the University of Toronto

Carles Muntaner MD, PhD, MHS is Professor of Nursing, Public Health and Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, Canada. He is Adjunct Professor at the Institute for Work and Health, the Keenan Research Center at St Michaels Hospital and the Center for Addictions and Mental Health in Toronto and with the Department of Mental Health, at Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health in Baltimore. As a founding member of the GREDS/EMCONET research group he is also currently appointed at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona and is on the board of its Johns Hopkins University-UPF Public Policy Center.

In his keynote address, Mr. Carles Muntaner will present “Precarious employment and health: what does Class have to do with it?”
