Call for Applications for the IRSST Graduate Studies Scholarships and Postdoctoral Fellowships

The call for applications is now launched for the IRSST 2021-2022 Graduate Studies Scholarships and Postdoctoral Fellowships competition. The deadline for submitting applications is Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at 4 p.m

The purpose of the IRSST Graduate Studies Scholarship and Postdoctoral Fellowship Program is to grow the pool of researchers available to meet research needs in occupational health and safety. These scholarships and fellowships are intended for applicants whose research projects concern the prevention of industrial accidents and occupational diseases or the rehabilitation of injured workers.

Changes to the program

A number of changes have been made to the program:

  • Foreign students may now apply for master’s and doctoral scholarships, subject to certain conditions.
  • Some holders of IRSST postdoctoral fellowships who obtain a job as a regular-faculty professor at a Québec university may now convert up to $15,000 of their fellowship into a start-up grant.
  • Exceptional measures for part-time studies have been added to allow certain categories of students to benefit from this option.
  • The number of hours of remunerated work permitted has increased.
  • A certain number of payments can now be deferred to allow the scholarship or fellowship holder to acquire relevant work experience.
  • The duration of the doctoral scholarship increased from three to four years during the last competition, but with a condition placed on the payment for the last two eligible sessions. This condition has now been withdrawn.

Scholarship supplements

By paying scholarship supplements to complement funding from other granting agencies, the IRSST scholarship and fellowship program helps financially support applicants who demonstrate particular aptitudes for graduate studies and a keen interest in these research fields.

Thematic scholarships available

Thematic scholarships are awarded in the areas of mechanical risk prevention and road safety at work. The Andrée-Bouchard Thematic Scholarship – Gender, Work and Health is designed to encourage research related to the establishment of policies and interventions that incorporate the notions of gender and sex with a view to improving the health of male and female workers.
