Adoption of a new standard ‒ Resistance to needle puncture

A new standard on the resistance of protective gloves to hypodermic needle puncture was recently adopted by ASTM International. In order to develop the standard, “ASTM F 2878-10 - Standard Test Method for Protective Clothing Material Resistance to Hypodermic Needle Puncture,” the IRSST’s research team took into account the fact that a hypodermic needle is not only finer than the standardized probes used in puncture resistance tests, but it also has a sharp cutting tip.

ICAR

The IRSST and Montréal’s École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) inaugurated a state-of-the-art acoustic laboratory, as there was no such facility in Montréal. ICAR, the acronym for infrastructure commune en acoustique pour la recherche, includes a semi-anechoic room connected to a reverberant room.

OHS-risk perception and information-sharing

Over 200 people attended the institutional colloquium, featuring the theme La perception et la communication du risque en SST(OHS-risk perception and information-sharing). The aim of the event was to raise researcher and stakeholder awareness of the importance of publicizing the risks and to equip them to take more effective action in their respective milieus.
