Profile

Since September 2015, Sylvain Pelletier has headed the IRSST’s Research and Expertise Division, which encompasses the Mechanical and Physical Risk Prevention, Chemical and Biological Hazard Prevention, and OHS Problem Prevention and Rehabilitation departments. When he first joined the Institute’s team in January 2013, he served as director of the Mechanical and Physical Risk Prevention Department and acting director of the Chemical and Biological Hazard Prevention Department. Before his arrival, Mr. Pelletier worked for more than 20 years at the Industrial Materials Institute of the National Research Council Canada (NRC-IMI), where he held positions as section director, Institute director, and Director General, and participated actively in occupational health and safety matters. Specialized in materials sciences, his research work has focused on powder metallurgy. Mr. Pelletier has authored and co-authored numerous publications and materials sciences patents. His portfolio also includes over 18 years of experience in project and human resource management at a research centre.
