Working Conditions and the Health and Safety of Québec Workers: Descriptive Prospective Analysis of Trends Based on Data from a General Health Survey Abstract The authors analyzed the data of the Health and Social Survey, conducted in 1998 (ESS98) by the Institut de la statistique du Québec, to determine the potential relationships between OHS and working and employment conditions. This survey, carried out on 11,000 workers, consisted of original and interesting material for the IRSST. The occupational accident record in ESS98 differs from that taken from CSST compensation statistics, mainly because the information takes into account only the frequency and not the severity of the occupational accidents. In a nutshell, the results of this study converge to indicate that specific populations of workers such as self-employed and young workers, generally less targeted by prevention programs, require specific attention in occupational accident prevention, and more generally, in improving their working conditions.
