Abstract

A welding fume generator for use in tests of the generation rate and composition of welding fumes emitted during specific welding processes has been developed, based on Swiss and British models. The apparatus consists of a metal box with holes in the sides through which the operator is able to manipulate welding rods or flux-cored wires.

This generator may be used for the development of standard filters for quality control of laboratory analyses, classification of fume generation of various electrodes/rods, evaluation of pistol-grip welding equipment equipped with local capture ventilation, and characterization of fumes emitted during various welding processes.
