Understanding and managing the effects of physical and social environments on health: creation of an occupational health and safety research centre in agriculture Abstract The IRSST is participating in the funding of an agricultural health and safety research centre in collaboration with the Institut de santé publique and people from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research CIHR). This centre, whose operation will be based on multidisciplinary collaboration, intends to: develop a network of researchers in different aspects of agriculture; increase research capacity by supporting the next generation of researchers; and increase the transfer of knowledge originating from the research. The team intends to favor four main themes: genetics and the environmental determinants of pulmonary dysfunction, the determinants of infections, occupational health and safety and health services, and agriculture-related social problems.
