Study of the efficiency of an occupational rehabilitation intervention program Abstract The authors studied the effects of a counselling intervention on the rehabilitation of injured workers at risk of chronicity. Following a non-exhaustive review of the literature on biopsychosocial factors and chronicity, they analyzed the issues. Sixty-two injured workers at risk of chronicity were randomly assigned to 19 counsellors, trained or not in rehabilitation counselling, and using two procedures, namely a weekly basis, or the CSST’s normal practices. Rehabilitation indicators measured before and after the intervention and then six months later, as well as measurements of the intervention process taken at every session were analyzed. They revealed that workers followed by counsellors trained in counselling improved significantly according to several rehabilitation indicators, compared to those that were followed by untrained counsellors. Evaluation of the intervention process confirms the significant effect of the intervention done by counsellors trained in counselling. The results also highlight the importance of the degree of adherence of the counsellors to the rehabilitation-counselling intervention in relation to the results and the rehabilitation process.
