Quantification of biological variability – Updating of data Abstract As a complement to environmental monitoring, biological monitoring aims to better document and control the exposure of workers to various chemical substances. In a prior project, the researchers used toxicokinetic modeling to quantify the variability of factors that have an impact on the biological exposure indicators of substances appearing in the IRSST’s biological monitoring guide. However, the standards or values of the biological exposure indicators of seven of these substances have since been modified and a new substance has been added to the list. By taking into account these changes, the scientists have applied the same method in order to develop new toxicokinetic models for the substances in question. These updated data have been integrated into the IRSST’s guide, which allows health practitioners to better adapt their sampling strategies to the different workplaces and to promote a more judicious use of biological exposure monitoring.
