Preliminary study of occupational reinsertion following rehabilitation

Abstract

In 1990, the CSST (Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail du Québec, Québec Occupational Health and Safety Commission) spent over $268 million on over 14 000 rehabilitation cases. To identify the factors which facilitate or hinder occupational reinsertion, a research team will analyze CSST files and identify typical rehabilitation patterns.

Interviews with workers, employers, and unions will allow significant factors to be described from different viewpoints. The study will be conducted in three regions: a remote region with a limited and relatively homogenous labour market, a suburban region with a relatively diversified labour market, and a metropolitan region with a heterogenous labour market.

This study will explore the many correlates of permanent occupational injury, describe those which affect occupational reinsertion, and identify research opportunities in the area of work organisation. It will also characterize the role of each of the actors in the rehabilitation process, in an attempt to better target future interventions.
