Occupational accidents in the forestry industry - phase 2: Development and validation of two data-collection tools for health and safety problems in the forestry sector

Abstract

Steps taken to produce tools for the prevention of accidents in the forestry industry, based on claims for compensation submitted to the CSST, have shown that it is difficult to use these documents for prevention purposes. As a result, it appears that data-collection tools need to be developed for improved documentation of the circumstances surrounding accidents and of the risk factors associated with health and safety problems in this sector. To meet this need, an accident-description form will describe the context, circumstances, and factors associated with occupational injuries, while a questionnaire will be used to analyse working conditions and the health and safety problems experienced by forestry workers. These tools will be used to help formulate the policies of the Joint Committee for Prevention in the Forestry Industry with a view to decreasing the number of injuries.
