Model for reducing environmental stress for a clientele in occupational rehabilitation

Abstract

Despite efforts to prevent musculoskeletal disorders (MSD), the latter continue to affect many workers and exact substantial human, social and financial costs, particularly for those who experience a prolonged disability period. Recent studies indicate that among the different types of rehabilitation interventions that have been attempted over the past few years, those involving the workplace seem promising. Using interviews, group meetings and a literature review, the researcher will try to better define and document the mechanisms likely to explain the effectiveness of these interventions, in order to then incorporate them into a theoretical model. The knowledge gleaned from this project can be used to improve rehabilitation services, which will increase the chances of workers affected by MSD to return to work. For their part, the stakeholders will benefit from a better understanding of rehabilitation interventions in the real work setting, as well as new tools for evaluating the intermediate effects of these activities.
