Evaluation of tools to measure the evolution of functional capacity in workers suffering occupational accidents involving the spine. Phase 1

Abstract

Although physicians are routinely called upon to assess the functional capacity of workers suffering from back injuries, there is no recognized method to monitor the evolution of functional capacity. This project will evaluate the utility of the following tools in assessing functional capacity before and after rehabilitation: three self-administered questionnaires on low back pain, an observational scale on effectiveness, and a device that measures the spine's strength and mobility. The most reliable, valid, and sensitive tools will be identified, and a standard method for the assessment of functional capacity among workers having suffered back injuries proposed. The reliability of the observational scale of effectiveness will be determined in a preliminary study.
