Effect of accident risk on pay scales in Québec Abstract Few studies have examined the effect of accident risks on hazard pay in Canada. An occupational accident database was established, using data drawn from other databases. Detailed statistical analysis of this database was then carried out.For a given occupation, accident frequency is higher in men, married individuals, and individuals working long hours. Age, sex, educational level, and production value are not associated with accident frequency. The data in this study indicates that pay scales and hazard pay exert a stronger effect on accident severity than on accident frequency.A research group was formed to study the economic aspects of occupational accidents. A report on interprovincial comparisons is in preparation. Research continues, funded in part by the IRSST (RS-88-24), on the detailed characterization of jobs, the physical environment, and the socio-economic profile of workers.
