Definition of the characteristics of a user-friendly knowledge-base or compilation of solutions for the construction sector

Abstract

The use of solution bases to disseminate information is a new technique in the field of prevention, and is experiencing an explosive growth in popularity. Solution bases consist of a repertoire of solutions, either tested or implemented by companies. This research project was the first stage in the development of a solution base for the construction industry. In order to shed light on the realities and needs in this sector, some thirty potential users from companies, joint sectoral associations, unions and employers were interviewed. Participants were greatly interested by this prevention tool. They described their information needs and their content and format preferences, and identified the agency best suited to managing the implementation and operation of a solution-base project. The report also includes a discussion of the role of solution bases, based on responses obtained in the interviews.
