Abstract

The goal of this project was to develop a program which permits users to rapidly identify all regulations, standards, and codes of practice relevant to the safe layout of areas in which hazardous materials are handled.

The OPAL (Outil Pour l'Aménagement des Locaux, Room Layout Tool) program can be used by designers, managers, and inspectors. Following a detailed on-screen questionnaire, OPAL generates a printed report listing all relevant design standards. Beta-testing of the program has been completed, and the program has been distributed to selected users for evaluation and validation. Version 1.0 of OPAL will be available to the public in spring 1993.
