A matter that concerns us all!
Having a prevention policy is definitely an asset when it comes to preventing workplace violence. However, the mere fact of having a policy is not enough to protect workers against violence in an organization. In fact, many workplaces have such a policy yet still encounter situations involving violence. This is precisely why the policy should be supported by other preventive measures.
Experts in violence prevention and psychological health in the workplace concur that violence can be eradicated effectively and sustainably in an organization if action is taken at three levels:
1- Primary
2- Secondary
3- Tertiary
Whether small or big, organizations do not all have the same means and resources to develop a range of preventive measures at each of these levels. In any case, to eliminate violence at the source, the main goal must be primary prevention, whereby action can be taken before tense situations degenerate into violence.
Adopting a prevention policy is already one of the primary prevention strategies, as is changing the work environment and organizational dynamics.
