Longitudinal and Comparative Analysis of Absences and Early Departures in an Educational Sector in Quebec: An Exploratory Research Activity

Abstract

Recent statistics show that the education sector suffers significant costs due to a very high number of occupational injuries (both physical and psychological nature) and early retirements with financial penalties for employees at the end of their careers. Moreover, the scientific literature shows that this sector is also concerned by the phenomenon of teachers dropping out during the first five years of their careers.
The objective of this study is to analyze and compare longitudinal administrative data on absenteeism and the employment status of all staff in a Quebec school board, taking into account the nature of the injury (physical or psychological) and the type of compensation.
More specifically, it aims to better understand, for this specific sector, how occupational injuries may vary according to the career stages of the staff or be related to retirements and resignations.
The results of this study will enable key actors in this specific sector to guide preventive actions in occupational health and safety.
