Exploration of Nurses’ Ethical Dilemmas in Connection with Occupational Health and Safety

Abstract

The researchers initiated this activity based on an observation they made during a master’s level clinical ethics course given by experienced nurses on the sources of ethical dilemmas experienced. The sources of these dilemmas appear to be much more numerous, varied and subtle than those previously documented in studies, and some may be related to occupational health and safety (OHS).

The study aims to analyze the stories nurses have to tell about OHS-related ethical dilemmas in order to better understand their multiplicity and the factors involved.

The results should make it possible to take better account of ethical dilemmas and their impacts on the health of professionals when training nurses, and in the management and organization of work.
