Review and critical analysis of the scientific literature on the evaluation of occupational exposure to nanomaterials in the workplace

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to produce a critical and comprehensive review of the scientific literature on levels of worker exposure to synthetic nanomaterials and to document related procedures. It is part of the research that the IRSST’s Scientific Division has agreed to conduct as a World Health Organization (WHO) collaborating centre. The critical literature analysis will be performed based on a WHO-approved methodology and a series of nanotechnology-specific criteria.

The WHO plans to produce a best practices guide to working safely with nanoparticles. The guide will be more specifically addressed to developing countries.

A summary will be submitted to the WHO on the critical analysis of information found in the scientific literature on worker exposure to nanomaterials in various workplaces. It will cover the 10 topics discussed in the guide and constitute the IRSST’s contribution as a WHO collaborating centre.
