Nanoparticles and inflammation - phase I: Procedure for evaluating the potential pro-inflammatory effects of nanoparticles

Abstract

The meteoric rise in popularity of nanotechnology using nanomaterials or nanoparticles led to the birth of nanotoxicology. This objective of this discipline is to assess the potential toxic effects of nanoparticles on the health of the living.

This project aims to develop an experimental approach to evaluating the pro-inflammatory potential of of certain nanoparticles selected in conjunction with an occupational health and safety issue. The researcher will develop a rigorous experimental procedure leading to a ranking of nanoparticles selected according to their degree of pro-inflammatory potential. This will be of great value because it will allow the nanoparticles to be used more safely. In addition, it will be possible to document and explain the mode of action of each nanoparticle studied.
