Implementation, cost/benefit analysis and evaluation of the sustainability of an intervention study targeting the implementation of job rotation in a plant in the aeronautics industry

Abstract

In Canada, MSDs rank 2nd in the most costly pathologies, after those of cardiovascular origin and before those associated with cancer. In Québec, lesions related to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) account for approximately 38% of the occupational injuries compensated by the CSST. Many ergonomic studies show that effective interventions for reducing MSDs are those targeting the reduction of physical and organizational risk factors and promoting the involvement of company management and workers in the process. However, few studies have evaluated the impacts of an intervention over a broad time scale in order to verify the achievement of a sustainable prevention culture.

The aim of this study is to integrate a sustainable MSD prevention culture in a large manufacturing company and to carry out a long-term follow-up of the results obtained. During the study, different preventive approaches will be characterized, and factors that promote the implementation of such approaches and obstacles will be identified.
