Preliminary study to identify the accidents caused by slip and fall in police and school crossing guards services

Abstract

Falling and slipping are main causes of accidents in Québec police departments, as well as for school crossing guards, a professional category that is under the responsibility of these departments. CSST statistics reveal that 15% of the injuries suffered by police officers are due to such incidents.
This study will profile the different causes of falling and slipping accidents and the main risk factors for police officers and school crossing guards. The researchers will do an exhaustive literature review on this subject. In addition, police department accident files and CSST statistics on occupational injuries will be analyzed, and interviews will be conducted in workplaces with police officers and school crossing guards in order to understand the accident circumstances. The study could also help the researchers in defining future avenues of research on adapted equipment to prevent this type of accident.
