Optimizing lift truck operators’ learning of stability concepts through training: an exploratory study

Abstract

Every year, lift trucks are the cause of serious accidents, with some even fatal. For this reason, the regulations in effect in Québec have required since 2008 that lift truck operators receive appropriate training. However, instructors sometimes have difficulty actualizing some lift-truck stability concepts and making them operational and, as a result, passing them on to their students. To define these concepts better and then develop training tools and strategies, the researchers will work with experienced instructors accompanied by a didactical specialist in a solution-finding process. This activity will improve knowledge transfer during training, thus promoting the prevention of lift truck rollover accidents.
