The transmission of job knowledge and prudent knowledge by experienced workers: How to support this dynamic training approach in workplaces

Abstract

A prior study demonstrated that the knowledge of experienced machinists and cooks comprises a transmissible wealth of information that promotes not only the integration and work retention of less experienced workers, but also their health and safety. This study involves determining the conditions suitable for the transmission of the prudent knowledge of four different trades that pose different risks, namely family and social auxiliaries, institution cooks, cinema technicians, and homecare nurses. The expected results will help identify optimal continuing occupational training strategies and contribute to the occupational injury prevention efforts of the IRSST’s partners. Emploi-Québec’s Fonds national de formation de la main-doeuvre is contributing financially to this study.
This study was funded by the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) in collaboration with the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail (CPMT).
