Musculoskeletal problems and repetitive movement in poultry slaughterhouses

Abstract

Over the last few years, repetitive-movement-induced injuries (RMIs) have become an increasingly recognized problem. The organization and work practices in poultry slaughterhouses favours the development of injuries of this kind. This project studied the effects of repetitive movement in a slaughterhouse and suggested preventive measures.

The project was an exploratory one and included descriptions of injuries and work organization, and analyses of work activities, procedures, and environmental conditions.

This project informed the working community of the problems posed by RMIs and of the conditions which favour their appearance. At the end of the study, the company applied corrective measures at several workstations.
