France and Québec sign a cooperative occupational health and safety research agreement
Montreal, September 4, 2003 - Concerned about ensuring the optimal development and wide dissemination of the scientific knowledge necessary for preventing industrial accidents and occupational diseases, the Institut national de recherche et de sécurité (INRS) and the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) today signed a partnership framework agreement at Québec’s Government House in Paris.

The IRSST contributes $420,000 for future researchers!
Montreal, September 2, 2003 - Since its creation in 1980, the IRSST has decided to encourage the training of occupational health and safety researchers by establishing a graduate studies scholarship program. Consequently, for its 2003-2004 competition, 31 Québec students received nearly $420,000.

Montreal, August 21, 2003 - In 2000-2001, according to Statistics
Canada, one adult in 10, or 2.3 million Canadians, suffered from a condition
due
to repetitive work. In half of the surveyed cases, the injuries occurred
at work. The IRSST has been focusing on work-related musculoskeletal disorders
(WMSDs) since the early 1990s. What are WMSDs? What causes these injuries?
How are they detected? What can be done about this problem?
Two new appointments at the IRSST
Montreal, August 11, 2003 -The president-CEO of the IRSST, Diane Gaudet,
is pleased to announce the appointment of Jacques Lesage as director of the
Laboratory Services and Expertise (LSE) team and Paul-Émile Boileau
as director of Safety Engineering team. 
The IRSST establishes an ethics policy
for research involving people
Montréal, July 2, 2003 -The IRSST's board of directors has just adopted
an ethics policy for research involving people. This policy confirms the
institute's concern that respect for the people participating in research
work be at the heart of the researchers' considerations.
A research ethics committee established
at the IRSST
Montreal, July 2, 2003 -The IRSST's board of directors has just appointed
members of the Research Ethics Committee. As defined in the new Ethics Policy
for Research Involving People, this committee will have to decide on the
ethical validity of research projects carried out by the IRSST's scientists.
