On June 2 - 4, 2009 will be held in Montreal the 4th International Conference on Whole-body Vibration Injuries. Organized by Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) and Concordia University, this multidisciplinary conference will provide a unique opportunity to exchange information on the potential injuries associated with exposure to whole-body vibration and mechanical shock.
The conference will include oral and poster presentations on the following topics: epidemiology, health effects and injuries, physiological measurements, pathological investigations, biodynamic measurements, models and analogues, measurements of exposures, seating dynamics, other preventative measures, guidelines and standards, compensation & legal implications, vibration and ergonomics, vibration control and intervention methods.

The IRSST just published a report which summarises the findings of a study in which the documentation and programs on lockout in the literature and applied in different plants were collected and analyzed. This study is the starting point of the research thematic on lockout which aims at identifying the various difficulties surrounding lockout and finding ways to promote and ensure the application of lockout in various industrial sectors.
Yuvin Chinniah of the IRSST shares his views and findings on lockout and the literature on the topic, as well as presents the future works in the research thematic on lockout at the IRSST.
This second edition of the literature review regarding the health risks of nanoparticles reveals the scope of current research in this field and observes that current knowledge of the toxic effects of nanoparticles is relatively limited.
