Meaningful work has vitamin effects on the worker's mental health and encourages his commitment towards an organization, while work without it promotes the onset of symptoms of stress, and even distress. This is one of the findings of a study funded by the IRSST on the meaning of work, mental health and organizational commitment, whose results have just been published in English.
The objectives of this study were twofold: (a) summarize the relevant literature concerning exposure to potentially toxic substances present in smoke from wildland fires and the resulting health risks to firefighters; and, (b) make an independent, health-based recommendation concerning the need for respiratory protection.
