Occupational health and safety activities
The Institute supports the actions of its occupational health and safety partners by providing them with the information, expertise, and tools that have been developed and validated according to rigourous scientific methods. The reliability and relevance of this information assures them of solid foundations on which to base their information, training, inspection, advisory and technical assistance activities.
Aided by the IRSST, partners with daily involvement in occupational health and safety are given the opportunity to:
- influence research objectives and actively participate in projects
- gain access to scientific knowledge and applications that meet their needs
- use the findings from research in their capacity as information intermediaries
- perform industrial hygiene monitoring in the workplace with the support of technical and laboratory services as part of an approach to industrial hygiene
- benefit from the linking of the IRSST's scientific and technical activities to the operations of the CSST and its network
Research activities
The IRSST gives researchers new opportunities to involve themselves in interesting interdisciplinary cooperative efforts and to develop expertise in action-oriented research in tandem with the working community.
Aided by the IRSST, researchers can take advantage of:
- the orientation and programming of research projects in accordance with priorities established from analysis of market needs
- the creation of interdisciplinary teams of Institute researchers and researchers in its external network, primarily with universities
- the Institute's ties to the working community and to partners and associations involved in most of its research projects
- the assurance that research results will be transmitted to potential users
- grants to promote the training of new occupational health and safety researchers
- the opportunity to share knowledge and expertise with the world's leading occupational health and safety centres
- visibility in the international scientific community
