Word from the Local organizing committee

On behalf of the International Advisory and the Local Organizing Committees, IRSST and Concordia University are pleased to invite you to participate in the 4th International Conference on Whole-body Vibration Injuries that will be held in Montréal in 2009. We intend to make this conference an event worth remembering.

This multi-disciplinary conference will provide a unique opportunity to exchange information on the potential injuries associated with exposure to whole-body vibration and mechanical shocks. Several studies have been conducted to quantify vibration exposures at work and to monitor the health of exposed populations. Laboratory studies have been performed to study the transmission of vibration to the body and monitor its effects. A range of mathematical models have also been constructed to represent our understanding of the responses of the body to whole-body vibration. There are now guides, standards and proposed legislations intended to protect workers from excessive exposure to whole-body vibration and mechanical shock. Seating standards have also been proposed to minimize the transmission of vibration and shock to the body. All these topics will be addressed as part of this conference, following the pattern that was initiated by creating this series of international conferences of which the first was held in Southampton, U.K. in 1997, the second in Sienne, Italy in 2000, and the third in Nancy, France in 2005.
