Grants program
Collaborative activity

The Collaborative Activity Grant Program is generally work defined in collaboration with the IRSST, and whose cost and duration are more limited than for a research project. For the most part, it is work that falls within the IRSST’s priority themes and that is preliminary to or follows a research project. This work mainly takes the form of literature reviews; preliminary, exploratory or feasibility studies; statistical analyses; or expertise activities applying a proven methodology or to promote a technique, approach or product resulting from an IRSST-funded project.

Collaborative activity grant proposals are drafted by researchers in consultation with the leader of the research field in question.

Submissions
Applications must be prepared using the Activity Estimate Form.

Approval Procedures

  • Submission of the “Activity Estimate” form. Activity estimates can be submitted on the deadlines announced periodically by the IRSST. Send the form to the research management advisor for the research field for which you are submitting an application.
  • Verification of compliance. The activity estimate is first checked to establish its compliance with the eligibility conditions and the form’s guidelines. A preliminary analysis is then done.
  • Verification of correspondence to the Institute’s research fields and orientations. The activity estimate is submitted to the Institute’ Scientific Division in order to determine whether the proposed subject corresponds to one of its fields of research and to its orientations. It is strongly recommended that researchers who wish to apply for collaborative activity grants contact the leader of the research field in question or the scientific director during preparation of their application.
  • Decision on the relevance and priority of the proposed subject, and on funding. The activity estimate is forwarded to the IRSST’s administrative committee (if under 50 000$) or the Scientific Advisory Board (if over 50 000$), which evaluates its relevance and priority, and makes a recommendation on its funding, based on its compliance with the IRSST’s mandate and action principles. The administrative committee or the Scientific Advisory Board, depending on the case, also considers the quality of the proposed approach. The Executive Office makes the final decision on funding for applications under $100,000. Beyond this amount, the Executive Office makes a recommendation for a final decision by the Administrative Committee for applications under $300,000, or by the Board of Directors for any application for $300,000 or more.
  • Announcement of the decision. An award letter, accompanied by the Timetable and Instalment Procedures form, is sent to all grant recipients.
