A range-limiting device for cement-pump booms Abstract Cement pumps are increasingly used to deliver ready-to-pour cement to frameworks on construction sites. The distribution booms of these pumps may be raised in the air to great heights, where they may touch electric power lines and cause electrocution of workers. Such potentially fatal accidents are becoming more frequent. The IRSST has been asked to modify a range-limiting device developed for mobile cranes for cement pumps, in order to prevent this type of accident. This project will consist of the analysis and definition of basic criteria, design of the system, production of a prototype, installation, and system trials. A Québec manufacturer of cement pumps has agreed to make a cement pump available for this research. The researcher, who has experienced designing this type of equipment, will then make the necessary design and technical modifications.
