Exploratory study of chipper-canter adjustment Abstract The risk of accidents is high during the adjustment and calibration of chipper-canters. Following a fatal accident, discussions were begun with various stakeholders about research on minimising the presence of workers inside chipper-canters during calibration operations. When a review of the industrial literature proved unfruitful, research concentrated on the identification of problems and the collection of suggested solutions from Québec users and manufacturers. The need to update existing machinery, i.e. to add control and adjustment equipment, was one of the report’s most notable conclusions. The required equipment is available at reasonable prices. Modified calibration methods that reduce or eliminate worker intervention in the danger zone of these machines should also be developed.
