Study of the protective gloves used in slaughterhouses Abstract The prevalence of hand injuries in slaughterhouses and butcheries is particularly high. The chain-mail gloves currently used provide inadequate protection against such injuries. To determine the sources of this problem, this project inventoried available and utilized gloves, surveyed slaughterhouse injuries, glove use, and worker satisfaction with gloves, and observed and performed ergonomic analysis of workstations, operations, movements, and implements.Problems related to the use of gloves were described and hand safety requirements defined. Particular attention was paid to workstations where workers do not wear available gloves, or develop health problems related to the use of gloves.
