Follow-up of the implementation of a continuous improvement program and its effects on worker health and safety in a company in the manufacturing sector Abstract The aim of this project is to document the integration of OHS ergonomics into a continuous improvement program that has been implemented in several large companies worldwide and is being implemented in several SMEs in Québec. More precisely, the researchers want to verify how, by adding an ergonomics component to this program, health and safety concerns such as the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders can be assimilated, as well as concerns related to productivity and quality. The study will be carried out in six establishments in the same manufacturing company. For three years, a total of some twenty implementation cells will be the subject of follow-up of the evolution in productivity, quality and OHS indicators and in the perceptions of the main actors in this implementation. The study will make workplaces and the IRSST’s partners aware of the importance of integrating OHS and ergonomics into continuous improvement programs. The intervention methods will be transferable to other SMEs in the manufacturing sector. Furthermore, the participating company will be able to transfer knowledge and competencies in ergonomics and OHS to the workers involved in the continuous improvement program’s implementation process.
