Development of concrete solutions to improve the safety of cotton carding machines Abstract A recent study (099-151) identified solution scenarios for reducing the risks related to the use of carding machines in the Québec textile industry. Four of the participating companies now want to implement the solutions that are appropriate for their situation, but they need support to do it and to ensure that the solutions chosen do not introduce new hazards. In collaboration with Préventex, the scientists will accompany them in this process. They will help determine the specific needs of each of these mills, and then define solution implementation criteria. Risk analyses carried out before and after the implementation of the new processes will allow the solutions to be validated, different risk assessment tools to be investigated, and raise the companies’ awareness. The study’s findings will facilitate the implementation of methods to correct certain safety problems caused by carding machines and they may be disseminated to the entire sector.
