Retrospective analysis of the data from the PLC (programmable logic controllers) project Abstract A project was carried out from 1997 to 2001 in the pulp and paper industry to create a training program on the design of safe automated production systems with programmable logic controllers (PLC). It provided information on this industry’s main processes and activities. This time, the scientists will present the data specific to each plant at the time it was collected and will specify hypotheses on some possible relationships, as for example between the degree of automation and the characteristics of the accidents. This project will identify the risk factors that led to the PLC project being carried out. This should identify certain hypotheses and avenues of research to be followed in the pulp and paper industry, which could potentially be extended to other sectors.
