The researchers characterized the pain and the strength and mobility deficits, as well as the functional capacity of healthy subjects and others with De Quervain's disease by using clinical and experimental tools. The results indicate a reduction in thumb mobility and symptomatic strength measurements compared to a healthy hand, but also an asymptomatic hand. Furthermore, the analyses resulted in a model being proposed that suggests that pain causes a reduction in hand mobility and strength, and that these two variables contribute independently to a reduction in upper limb performance. This study reveals that strength, mobility and pain are pertinent variables in results measurement in the population with this disease.
