Validation of improved hopper-loading station design and cab access in rear-loading domestic garbage trucks Abstract IRSST research has revealed that over one-third of accidents involving domestic waste collectors occur when workers mount or dismount from the cab or rear platform, or ride on the rear platform. A study conducted in collaboration with the City of Montreal identified design modifications which should reduce the accident hazard in rear-loading trucks. This study will validate the utility of these modifications and extend them to trucks used in the private sector. Following validation, a specification sheet summarizing the results and necessary modifications will be distributed to municipalities and to companies in the domestic-waste collection sector.
